Not every WORX PowerShare battery uses the same physical connector.

What Is the WORX PowerShare Battery System?

PowerShare is WORX’s current multi-tool battery platform. It is based primarily on removable 20V lithium-ion battery packs that can be shared across compatible WORX cordless products.

The system is described as stackable because several 20V batteries can be combined in higher-voltage equipment:

  • 20V tool: normally uses one 20V PowerShare battery
  • 40V tool: normally uses two 20V PowerShare batteries
  • 60V tool: certain market-specific products may use three 20V batteries
  • 80V tool: normally uses four 20V PowerShare batteries

The tool determines how many batteries are required. Installing a higher-capacity battery does not turn a 20V tool into a 40V tool. Battery capacity affects available runtime and, depending on the battery design, its ability to support demanding loads—but it does not change the tool’s voltage class.

Does “One Battery Powers All” Mean Every WORX Battery Fits?

No. The PowerShare compatibility promise applies within the matching PowerShare battery interface.

WORX batteries sold in different countries can have different connector designs. This is why two batteries that appear nearly identical from the outside may not slide into the same tool.

The following details must all be compatible:

  • Battery voltage platform
  • Battery chemistry
  • Slide rails and housing shape
  • Number and arrangement of electrical contacts
  • Battery release and locking mechanism

Are WORX 4-Pin and 6-Pin Batteries Interchangeable?

No. A WORX 4-pin battery and a WORX 6-pin battery are not directly interchangeable.

This applies in both directions:

Important: Matching the number of contacts is an essential first step, but it is not the only requirement. The battery and tool must also have matching rails, housing geometry, voltage and electronic requirements.

How to Identify a WORX 4-Pin or 6-Pin Battery

The most reliable identification method is to inspect the terminal side of the battery and the battery receptacle on the tool.

1. Remove the battery

Turn the tool off and remove the battery normally. Do not attempt to inspect the connector while the tool is operating.

2. Look at the battery terminals

Examine the portion of the battery that slides into the tool. Count the visible metal contacts that form the electrical connection.

Do not count:

  • Plastic guide rails
  • Openings without a metal contact
  • Screws or fasteners
  • Decorative moulding in the battery housing

3. Inspect the tool slot

Look inside the battery receptacle on the tool. Compare its terminal arrangement, guide rails and locking position with the battery.

4. Check the model labels

Record the complete battery and tool model numbers. Battery numbers often begin with WA, while WORX tool numbers commonly begin with letters such as WX or WG.

Model numbers are helpful, but they should not replace a physical inspection. Similar model families may be sold with different battery interfaces in different markets.

5. Verify the country of purchase

Knowing whether the battery and tool were originally sold in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia or another region can help identify the platform. However, used and imported tools may not match the local market’s usual connector.

The colour of the tool is not a reliable way to distinguish these connectors. Orange WORX tools and similarly styled batteries can use either interface.

Can a US WORX Battery Be Used in a UK, European or Australian Tool?

Not automatically.

North American WORX PowerShare products commonly use the 6-pin connection, while many UK, European and Australian products use a 4-pin connection. Therefore, a US or Canadian battery may not physically fit a tool purchased in another region, even when both are labelled 20V PowerShare.

The reverse situation also applies: an international 4-pin battery does not directly fit a North American 6-pin tool.

The safest approach is to compare:

  • The number and arrangement of metal contacts
  • The battery rails

The Less Common WORX 5-Pin Battery Variant

A less common WORX 20V battery interface uses a 5-pin connection. It is sometimes described by sellers as the green or larger-foot WORX battery platform and is often associated with battery numbers such as WA3593, WA3595 and WA3401.

This version should not be confused with either the standard 4-pin or 6-pin PowerShare connection.

WORX PowerShare Standard vs PRO vs ProPlus Batteries

WORX offers several battery performance levels within the current PowerShare ecosystem.

Standard PowerShare batteries

Standard PowerShare batteries are intended for general cordless tool and lawn-equipment use. They are available in several capacities depending on the country and product range.

PowerShare PRO batteries

PowerShare PRO batteries use additional battery-management, cooling and housing technology intended to improve performance, runtime, heat management and impact protection.

They are especially suitable for demanding WORX Nitro tools, but Nitro does not represent a separate battery connector. A compatible standard PowerShare battery can still operate a Nitro tool, while a PRO battery can be used with compatible non-Nitro PowerShare tools.

PowerShare ProPlus batteries

PowerShare ProPlus is a newer battery-performance category featuring updated cell and pack technology. It remains part of the PowerShare platform and is not a separate voltage system.

The words PRO, ProPlus or Nitro do not resolve the 4-pin versus 6-pin question. The battery must still match the tool’s regional connector and physical interface.

Does Battery Capacity Affect WORX Compatibility?

Battery capacity is measured in amp-hours, commonly written as Ah. Depending on the market, WORX PowerShare batteries may be available in capacities such as 1.5Ah, 2.0Ah, 2.5Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah or 8.0Ah.

Within the same compatible connector family:

  • A higher Ah rating normally provides longer runtime
  • A lower Ah battery is normally lighter and more compact
  • The battery voltage remains in the same 20V class
  • The tool does not become a higher-voltage tool
  • PowerShare PRO or ProPlus technology may improve performance under demanding loads

For example, a compatible 4.0Ah battery can generally replace a compatible 2.0Ah battery without changing the tool voltage.

However, very large batteries can create a physical-clearance issue. A high-capacity battery may be electrically compatible but too large for a tool with an enclosed battery compartment, cover or restrictive surrounding housing.

Check the available space around the battery slot before purchasing an unusually large-capacity pack.

Using WORX Batteries in 40V, 60V and 80V Tools

Current higher-voltage PowerShare equipment obtains its voltage by using multiple 20V batteries.

A 40V tool designed for two PowerShare batteries will not normally operate with only one battery installed.

Current PowerShare 40V vs Older Single-Battery WORX 40V

Not every WORX product labelled 40V belongs to the current two-battery PowerShare system.

Current WORX 40V PowerShare tools generally use two removable 20V PowerShare batteries. Older WORX 40V equipment may instead use a single dedicated 40V battery pack, such as batteries from the older WA3536-style family.

These systems should be treated separately:

  • Two 20V PowerShare batteries are intended for current compatible 40V PowerShare tools
  • An older single-pack 40V battery uses a different housing and connection
  • A dedicated legacy 40V battery is not replaced by inserting one current 20V battery
  • Matching voltage wording does not make the physical systems interchangeable

When identifying an older 40V tool, check whether it has two separate PowerShare battery slots or one larger dedicated battery receptacle.

Are WORX 18V and 20V Batteries the Same?

In lithium-ion tool systems, 18V and 20V MAX commonly describe the same basic five-cell voltage class:

  • 18V refers approximately to the nominal operating voltage
  • 20V MAX refers approximately to the maximum fully charged voltage

For certain WORX product families, batteries labelled 18V and 20V are electrically part of the same platform. WORX has sold batteries such as the WA3525 as compatible with both matching 18V and 20V tools.

However, the voltage equivalence does not guarantee that every WORX 18V battery from every country or production period will physically fit every current 20V tool.

Do not identify a battery only by brand and voltage. Check its chemistry, housing, model number and physical connection.

WORX Charger Compatibility

A WORX battery should be charged with a charger explicitly designed for its battery platform and connector.

Before using a charger, verify:

  • The charger supports the battery’s voltage
  • The charger is designed for the same battery chemistry
  • The terminals and rails match
  • The battery model is listed as compatible
  • The charger input voltage is suitable for the country where it is being used

A 4-pin battery should not be forced onto a 6-pin charger, and a 6-pin battery should not be forced onto a 4-pin charger.

Do not charge a battery through a standard power-tool battery adapter. Remove the battery from the adapter and charge it with the correct charger for its original platform unless a product is explicitly designed and approved for charging.

Using Battery Adapters With WORX Tools

A battery adapter can allow certain batteries and tools with otherwise incompatible connections to operate together. Examples may include:

  • Using a battery from another supported brand on a WORX PowerShare tool
